Zaib Master is a Legal Research Librarian at the Gender and Justice Unit (GJU), where she works at the intersection of legal research, digital access to justice, and gender-responsive programming.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Malawi. Her work focuses on strengthening access to legal information and supporting evidence-based advocacy. She serves as the lead coordinator for MalawiLII, overseeing the publication of Malawian judgments and contributing to partnerships that expand public access to the law.
Zaib also develops legal research tools and knowledge products, including case summaries, reporting systems, and organisational research outputs that inform GJU’s programmes and policy work. In addition, she provides operational legal support across GJU initiatives, contributing to the design and documentation of mobile courts and legal clinics, and supporting case review processes in collaboration with strategic partners such as WOJAM.
She contributes to public legal education and outreach through initiatives such as EmpowerLine, supporting content development, user experience testing, and the preparation of legal materials for users.
Her research interests focus on women’s rights at the intersection of property law and environmental justice, with particular attention to structural inequalities in Malawi. She has also held leadership roles within the Women Lawyers Association and the University of Malawi’s Environmental Justice and Sustainability Clinic.
