Welkam Phiri is a lawyer and chartered accountant with over 25 years of experience spanning law, banking, finance, and taxation. He is currently in private practice at the Law Office of Timothy John Chirwa, where he focuses on litigation, corporate and commercial law, regulatory compliance, and taxation. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and holds an Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) from the Chartered Institute of Taxation (UK). He also holds a Master of Arts in Anti-Corruption Studies, a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), and a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of Malawi. Welkam brings to the Board strong expertise in financial governance, regulatory compliance, and accountability. His academic and professional work has focused on issues of transparency, anti-corruption, and the role of legal and financial systems in public sector integrity. In addition to his practice, he lectures at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), teaching Business Law, Regulatory Compliance, and Taxation.
At GJU, he contributes strategic guidance on governance, financial oversight, and institutional accountability in support of the organisation’s mission.
