Project Coordinator

Chifundo Chulu is a Malawian legal professional and gender justice advocate with over four years of experience in gender-based violence (GBV) programming, legal empowerment, and community development. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the Catholic University of Malawi and currently serves as Project Coordinator at the Gender and Justice Unit (GJU).

In her role, Chifundo leads the design and implementation of legal clinics and mobile court sessions that enhance access to justice for GBV survivors, particularly in remote areas. She has successfully coordinated the Trocaire-funded “Empower Safe” project in Dedza District, reaching over 3,000 community members with legal awareness and psychosocial support services.

Her work is grounded in community mobilisation, having established and strengthened local liaison structures and community-based organisations to sustain grassroots GBV response mechanisms. Chifundo has also reactivated and revitalised platforms such as the Dedza Court Users Committee, transforming it into an active space for collaboration between justice sector actors and community members.

With a passion for capacity building, she has facilitated numerous trainings on gender equality, child protection, legal empowerment, and trauma-informed survivor care. Her collaborative approach has strengthened partnerships with government agencies, civil society organisations, and gender-focused working groups, advancing Malawi’s gender justice agenda.

Fluent in English and Chichewa, Chifundo bridges community and institutional voices, ensuring inclusive, survivor-centered, and sustainable solutions to gender-based violence and inequality.
