Welkam Phiri is a Malawian lawyer and chartered accountant with over 25 years of experience spanning law, banking, finance, and taxation. He is a lawyer at the Law Office of Timothy John Chirwa, where his practice focuses on litigation, corporate and commercial law, regulatory compliance, and both domestic and international taxation.

A Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), Welkam also holds an Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) from the Chartered Institute of Taxation (UK), a Master of Arts in Anti-Corruption Studies, a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), and a Bachelor of Accountancy, both from the University of Malawi. His postgraduate research explored the role of anonymity in combating corruption in Malawi, and he remains actively engaged in scholarship on governance, compliance, and international taxation.

Beyond practice, Welkam serves on the Board of Directors of the Gender Justice Unit (GJU), contributing to the advancement of gender equality, access to justice, and human rights. He also lectures at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), where his teaching includes modules in Business Law, Regulatory and Compliance Management, and Taxation, equipping future lawyers, accountants, and compliance professionals with both theory and practice.

Guided by the belief that law and finance must converge to serve the public good, Welkam continues to shape discourse in Malawi on taxation, corporate governance, and social justice.
